Tartaric acid, 2, 3-dihydroxysuccinic acid, is a carboxylic acid with the chemical formula C4H6O6. Found in a variety of plants, such as grapes and tamarind. It is also one of the main organic acids in wine. As antioxidants added to food, they can give it a sour taste.

Tartaric acid is mainly used in the food industry. Like citric acid, tartaric acid is used as an acid flavor agent in carbon dioxide drinks, and is usually used in combination with phosphoric acid, citric acid and malic acid. Wine making is one of the main places where tartaric acid is used.

Tartric acid is also used in organic synthesis industry, such as: tartric acid is often used in electroplating industry, as a complexing agent; Tartaric acid is used in the mirrormaking industry as a reducing agent in the manufacture of glass mirrors and hot water bottles.
